How Much Vitamin D Do You Need Every Day?

Even though it’s an essential nutrient, most people don’t get enough Vitamin D.

In addition to boosting bone health, many recent studies have linked Vitamin D to many other potential health benefits, including reduced risk of cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes and autoimmune diseases.

Experts recommend that adults up to the age of 69 need 600 IU/day, while those over 70 should get 800 IU/day.

Aside from taking a supplement, you can also get vitamin D by sitting in the sun and eating foods that contain vitamin D, including:

  • Vitamin-D fortified dairy products, orange juice and cereal
  • Mushrooms
  • Eggs
  • Cheese
  • Beef liver
  • Fatty fish and fish liver oils
